KP HOUSE
AHMEDABAD, 2022
KP House celebrates the quintessential courtyard found in the havellis of vernacular built forms of India. The courtyard becomes the Genius Loci of the House, with living and sleeping spaces revolving around it. The circulation passage around the courtyard is designed as an inhabited space by carefully positioning a library and study corner. Carefully curated artworks along the walls of this passage turns the courtyard into a display gallery. Within each space, green Kotah stone flooring, polished teak wood furniture, upholstery in earthy and neutral hues and tones and white plastered walls create a spatial experience that is bright, airy and Indian in its essence. The drawing and living room are separated through a wooden screen, both opening onto the verandah that acts as an outdoor living room. The round shaped dining table provides a place for the family to congregate and celebrate the essence of a joint family.
