HOUSES OF SHARED HORIZON
AHMEDABAD, 2026
Conceived as a home for two brothers and their families, the Houses of Shared Horizon reimagines multigenerational living through the idea of an elevated horizon. While shared recreational spaces occupy the ground floor, the first floor becomes a new ground plane — a raised landscape where two independent homes are connected through a communal garden, resulting in a celebration of the joint family construct within the Indian cultural context.
A sequence of dining courts, verandahs and landscaped spaces creates an internal public street that encourages everyday interactions while preserving the individuality of each family. Defined by parallel walls and vertical planes, the architecture establishes a balance between openness, enclosure and movement.
Responding to Ahmedabad’s hot and dry climate, cavity walls, recessed terraces, screened openings and central courtyards reduce heat gain while enhancing light and ventilation. A timeless palette of stone, marble, wood and white surfaces reinforces simplicity and permanence.
The houses celebrates a contemporary vision of joint-family living — where architecture nurtures togetherness while respecting personal space.
